Food $en$e is designed to increase self-sufficiency by helping individuals stretch their food dollars. The Food Bank is able to purchase food items in large quantities at discounted prices, and this savings is passed on to the program’s customers. The Food Bank operates this service with 44 sites in a 14 county area.
Monthly Food $en$e packages are created by the Food Bank and a
newsletter is generated and distributed to each site coordinator. The
coordinators are responsible for taking orders from customers, placing
the order to the Food Bank and distributing the packages on a specific
date. The monthly newsletter includes information for the coordinators,
the current month’s Food $en$e package, the projected package for the
following month, and recipes using food items from the unit. A food package contains 10-12 items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and staple food items.
Anyone wishing to stretch their food dollars
can participate. The cost of the package is $15.50 and participants
pre-pay with cash or EBT card, and they pick up their Food $en$e
packages at the end of the month.

Food Pantry Update
We have recently learned that, though the New Berlin Food Pantry at the New Berlin Housing & Preservation Company closed, there is still an active Food Pantry in New Berlin at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and they are willing to serve the New Berlin area. They are at 40 South Main Street in New Berlin, ph # 607-847-6361. They do not participate with the Food Bank of Central New York but are a viable means of support for their community, and therefore, we are not taking on the New Berlin area as part of our territory. If, for any reason, we need to step up from time to time to aid people in the New Berlin area with food, they will not be turned away. Even with keeping our territory in just the South New Berlin area, we are serving more meals than ever before. The number of meals served has tripled & continues to grow. The Food Bank of Central New York still aids us and we still purchase food from them, when necessary. It is through the efforts of the congregation of First Baptist Church of South New Berlin that we are able to keep providing food for needy people in our area and we say Thank you!!! The needy people say Thank you!!! In these days when people’s needs are great, we can do our best to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus in our community. That’s what we should be about.
The New Berlin Food Pantry at the Episcopal Church has picked up several
of our New Berlin customers and they are doing a great job filling the
needs. the month of November, the Southtown Food Pantry served 654
meals, the highest number of meals this year. We are still in need of
spaghetti, canned meats, juice, and frozen items. As of December 19,
2011, we have been awarded two $700.00 shipments from the Food Bank of
Central New York for 2012. This will greatly help serving the community
during their times of need. Thank you for your support.
